A Greek tragedy written by Sophocles in either 442 or 440 BC, the play was first performed ironically at the Festival of Dionysus of the same year (Dionysus is the ancient Greek god of wine). The play chronicles Oedipus Rex's daughter, Antigone, fighting for a proper burial for her brother, going against the decision of King Creon who ended up hanging herself to stay true to the Divine Law.
The wisdom of ancient Greek dramatists and philosophers is timeless -- which also means human beings as a species have not learned our lessons despite the rise and fall of countless civilizations. Autocracy never lasts, but so does pseudo- democracy.
