The reason is simple: Candidates have never learned how to write proper literary analysis at school in essay format. However, being able to write essays on literary analysis (ranging from 300 to 400 words) is the first and foremost English skills that Year 7-13 / Grade 6-12 students need to acquire, if they want to excel in their IBDP studies.
There is a tremendous price students have to pay if they deliberately evade taking subjects in literature during their I/GCSE stage.
