This novel reminds me of today's Palestine, Sudan... basically every child who is plagued by war, famine, and all forms of oppression and disposition.
Published in 2003 and written by Afghan-American writer Khaled Hosseini, the plot follows a privileged Pashtun boy, Amir, and his loyal Hazara friend, Hassan. Their bond is shattered by a kite-flying incident, leading Amir to betray Hassan, a decision that traumatized both of them into adulthood.
If The Little Red Riding Hood was banned in some states in America, one wouldn't find it too absurd if The Kite Runner was also banned by The American Library Association. Luckily, IB always has the audacity to assign banned books as set texts in examinations, as real IB educators believe knowledge is generated through intellectual discussions but not calculated censorship.
