In coaching younger learners (Year 7 - Year 9 students), the focus should be on cultivating their language proficiency. They like to write in colloquial language, but it‘s essential to make them realize they need to use formal register in their writing because that’s how they score high in public exams later in life.

Instead of simply pointing out their problems, I always give my students a list of vocabulary that‘s suitable for their age to revise.
