Being a Muslim and calling himself a "Democratic Socialist", of course Mamdani faced attacks by Republicans and Trump through their Islamophobic discourse. Mamdani is also branded as "anti-Semitic" for openly supporting the Palestinians by standing on the side of the Boycott, Divestment Sanctions campaign, criticizing the Israelites' ruthless treatments of the Palestinians as "genocide".
Yet, he won. Although only by a small margin due to New York's billionaires' attempts to crush him, he still won. Coming from a family with a tradition of serving communities, I hardly see a politician so passionate in creating positive changes for the working class. Hope he is real. I am really looking forward to Mamdani doing something similar to what he did for New York's taxi drivers in 2021 -- when he stood with them over a hunger strike, protesting against medallion debt and pushing for policy relief. They eventually succeeded. Now, the taxi drivers stood by him.
Solidarity -- again, hope it's real.
