Being one of the most controversial novellas published in the 20th Century, Lolita (1955) is written by Russian-American novelist Valdimir Nabokov. It aroused censorship due to its content of pedophelia and erotic motifs.
Yet, if readers take the novella as pornography, then they would have completely overlooked its literary value. The novella is laden with layers of irony, with which Nabokov's use of unreliable narrator and consistent double entendres make the novella a stark social satire on corrupted American culture.
